OUT OF : miss piggy

JOCKEY: Ryan Porker

HANDICAP: 9  RANGE 12.6 - 8.1

GAMES: 45  STRIKE RATE: 2.22

WIN/PLACE: 4 - 25

This little piggy went to market and set a crackling pace all year. Carrying a weight towards the heavy side has proved as for nothing to this spritely young colt and there is no reason to suspect a change in form in the near term.

The smart money will be out to get this one so come prepared to dig deep.

JOCKEY: Targe Mifsud

HANDICAP: 27  RANGE 30.2 - 20.0

With a podium strike rate of over 50% there is a better than even money chance that this nag will be on it or close to it in this Class 1 event. The connections gave him his head this year and there has hardly been a backward glance since then. Can be a bit slow off the mark, so don't despair if you are following him.

The odds are likely to be short, so don't be caught short.

HANDICAP: 10  RANGE 10.1 - 8.5

GAMES: 32  STRIKE RATE: 2.66

It is far from all black and white when it comes to this steady runner. His appearances on the track have had their ups and downs but that is what can really count and the strike rate is right up there with the best in the field. With a handicap on the light side, there would have to be a good chance that this one can bore the opposition into submission.

Bid early and bid often to swing this one.

This tasty dish has been on the table more than most but the high step on the podium has stayed tantalisingly out of reach for the most part. As a result the strike rate is lower than it might be but perhaps that means that a win is long over due. If he doesn't throw a shoe he could very well present to the judges by a nose if not a neck.

Load up with pineapples and limes if you want to attract this one.

OUT OF : miss hit

JOCKEY: David Mullenger

HANDICAP: 3  RANGE 8.2 - 3.1

GAMES: 17  STRIKE RATE: 4.88

WIN/PLACE: 7 - 8

Not the most frequent on the track but, boy, can this galloper win. With a win/place ratio that is pretty much unheard of and a strike rate to match you would have to bet that this will be hard to beat. This is one of the few horses that could drive the whole course without using a cart. The weighting is a good measure and the lighter part of the range was a hang-over from a long period at grass.

Make this your best bet or go bust.

Despite getting rather twisted in the starting gate, this young colt has shown that he can get his running shoes on and present a clean pair of heels to the field. With the weighting right in the middle of the range, there is a good chance for the form to show through again.

It would be a cow of a thing if this one went without milking.

HANDICAP: 20  RANGE 23.0 - 16.6

Attendance at the track has suffered a little this year and a run of form mid-season has shown this old stager in a slightly better light. Recent times have shown only average form and the weight has lightened but the connections feel that the turn around might be some way off. You could take solace in the knowledge that there is a one in twenty chance of pulling off a good one. Hard to see real value on current form.

A long shot at best.

You don't need a goat to marshall this one into the starting gate. But how good is his form in recent days with a string of victories under his belt. A recent venture onto the American tour has done nothing to Trump his ability to hit them straight and long. He could very well harvest some long grain this time around.

Well up in the stakes for track attendance but has garnered scant reward for his efforts. The weighting is just about as light as it has been all year and the problem with his shanks seems to have largely dissipated. Highly skilled in using the Force and there is no evidence of having defected to the Dark Side.

There's no sitting on the fence for this aging charger. But this characteristic brought on an uncharacteristic break-down and an enforced lay-off from racing. The stewards reviewed the weighting and this produced an almost complete return to form and he now sports an enviable win/place ratio. Is looking forward to new fields to conquer in the new season.

If you open a can of cola sometimes it will fizz. This horse is no fizzer and it has a pretty remarkable win place ratio. Absence from the track has limited the scoring chances but with a mid to low weighting and a recent win under the belt it would be hard to pass this one up.

This year hasn't been kind to this pugnacious old salt. His regular attendance at the track has not proved over generous for most of the year but a couple of recent results higher in the order have indicated that there could be pugtacular things to come. The handicap is on the light side and a recent cut is unlikely to have too much effect.

This stallion has had a matchless performance over the last couple of seasons and this year went close to a triple but fell at the next to last hurdle. This is a horse that likes to take the time to smell the roses and any other flower in the garden. Has been known to lay down the lawn and spend mulch time in the bed. This spindly colt has been known to hammer a point or two and will really stick to his guns but doesn't like it when he finds his charges lying down on the job. The connections are considering opening a chippery as, in recent times, they have had bigger fish to fry. A relocation to go sand-groping will probably prevent this fine performer from appearing.

The bottom of the Black Lagoon is where you will find this animal. He pops up and grabs you when you least expect it, usually after venturing to foreign fields to hone his skills, if not his knife. Attendance hasn't been great and the strike rate is middling. A lighter than usual weight suggests that this could be the one to watch and he has shown that he can win when the going gets tough.

This is a horse that never holds back and has been known to terrorise runners in front. Occasionally, the running gets a bit off line but the jockey has the touch to bring him back to the pack. Very few attendances at the track this year makes the form a bit hard to pick and the weighting is mid-range.

This colt has been pretty regular at the track but has taken a fair sort of a haircut and the weight is as light as it has been for a long time. The rewards for his efforts have been pretty thin on the ground and the strike rate is pretty abysmal.
