a solid net 133.

for that event - Neil Argall, Andrew Petricola, Chris Priems, Stuart Clarke,
Ben Smith, Laurie Mannix, Stephen Butterfield, Tony Mifsud, John Quinlan, Allan
Davies, David Howard, Damien Lee, Paul Clarke and Craig Sharp. All other players
will be playing for the 'Chump of Chumps'.
NEW HANDICAPPING RULES
Please note that your handicaps have been calculated as a result of the following
changes voted in by the comittee and which apply from the 4th December 2004
(Vin O'Meara Round 1)
(a) The course rating will no longer float and the DCR will always
be the actual par of the course (presently 68)
(b) Championship points commence from 4th Dec 2004
(c) All two round competitions from 4th Dec 2004 will be played with the handicap
on entry to the 2 weeks. Once the competition is completed
then handicaps are calculated for each of the two rounds separately to arrive
at the handicap for the round following the two week competition. Note the winner
of a two week competition gets double championship points and everybody else
gets bugger all points!

As
you can see from the photo we were flooded out this week so therefore there
was no committee meeting (will now have meeting next week). The latest ecelctic
is now posted (click ECLECTIC 2004 on left side of screen). At least the Par
detractors had their day :-)
6th November 2004
Back to Ivanhoe this week to soggy but playable conditions which sorted the wheat from the chaff. Paul Clarke (Net 69) won the November Monthly Medal in a countback from Stephen O'Sullivan which now makes his club championship points probably unassailable!
Remember Next week is a committee meeting.

The trip to Benalla was excellent as usual and we all had a great time on a long and interesting course with lots of natural hopping hazards with pouches. The two day stableford competition was a close thing and Allan Davies(62) won in a countback from Craig Sharp(62), David Howard(61) ran third (on countback) from Rodger Clarke(61). Benalla Golf Club was an excellent facility and we had a great dinner on the Friday night followed by a nice pub dinner on the Saturday. The course was a par 73 with long holes and raised small greens that were tricky to stay on .. often you would here the shouts of "stop you xxxxx" as the balls landed in the front of the greens and ran off the back! We have booked again for next year with a new motel and it should be great fun again. Please note that for clarification the Local Rules put togther by David Howard are now added to our web site (see left side of page).
Many of our members are travelling to Benalla this weekend for our Annual Trip away.
23rd October 2004
Its amazing the difference good conditions can make. Today we had all players bar 2 or 3 do par or better. It was good to see our new member Geoff Longland get a +7 to win B Grade and get himself straight into A Grade. El Presidente put in another sterling performance to win A Grade with a +5 and dead eye Trevor Jackson got to 37cms of the pin on the 12th to win the money (Hope he put it on the Cox Plate Winner!!).

Well our presidente won the day today with a top score of 38 stableford on cored, sandy greens and deep rough..well done Gordon (and thanks for the Elvstroem tip!). Also B Grade was jointly won by Rodger the Dodger and Craigie Sharp.

A Tee up day again but Chris Priems (4th from left on photo below in case you've forgotten him) didn't mind at all...on 18th green he got his first hole-in-one at Ivanhoe on the 18th green. This is in fact Chris's second hole in one in 9 months (I'm still waiting after 25 years) :-((. WELL DONE CHRISTOPHER. Ben Smith had the high score of the day with a +5 to win B Grade and Targe and Stuart had +3's to jointly win A Grade. Note. 7.05am this Saturday chaps!

Look long and admiringly at the "Hardy" club...the true golfers who braved the elements and paddled and teed up their way to full round of stableford golf. Yes it was raining and the fairways were boggy but in the true spirit of the club, they all finished. Well Done team!!!!!!!!!! Given the inclement conditions it was decided to defer the Matchplay final between the two Andrews! Good job for Mr. Petricola as Mr Tome shot a 40 in these conditions (after a hops driven overnight diet, to boot!). PS. Once again we were paddling around in wet conditions after an overnight drenching. David Howard proved that you can play great golf in poor conditions by blitzing everyone with a net 61 - 7 shots clear of the rest of the field to take out the September Monthly medal. At last a Sunny day with a top of 26 deg! Surprisingly we had better scoring on 14th August in the big cold day than today. Perhaps we all suffered from unexpected sun stroke! Scoring was generally mediocre even though the fairways were dry and the greens were still a bit soft. Chris Priems was the high scorer with 41 points and will be glad of the win I am sure.

Dry conditions at last and only slightly spludgy underfoot. Obviously these new halcyon conditions inspired Neil Argall who eventually got his new clubs to work properly after 12 months "burning in" and put in a blistering 43 points to win B grade. Tony Mifsud led with 40 points last week and put in another good round of 38 points (especially given the sloppy conditions) to win the Fred Howe Winter Cup with an aggregate score of 78 stableford points...Well Done Tony!!. Paul Clarke didn't lie down and put in the best score of the two rounds (43 points off a 66 stroke round!) to come in second with 76 points. Tony and Paul were well clear of the rest of the field and David Howard and Derek McDonald tied for 3rd place with 71 points each. As you all know the Winter Cup is named after Fred Howe, our living legend, who put in a good round of 34 points to show that he still means business!! Today had tough conditions with the play off the back tees and a very windy day. This was reflected in the scores for the day which suited the longer hitters in B Grade. For the first time ever we have players in B grade that got 2nd and 3rd placings but couldn't qualify for championship points as they were over net 73. Well done to Stuart Clarke who won the Monthly Medal on countback from Andrew Petricola. Both players had 67 which was excellent givent the tough conditions.

One of the next matchplay competitions was played today with Andrew Petricola playing a blistering 70 off the stick (and 41 stableford) to beat Paul Clarke 4&3. Fairly even distribution of A and B grade players this week. We had one of the the O'Sullivan tribe (Brendan) visit us from Shepparton and he is our first honorary country member. KIWI GOLF EXPERIENCES
Some of you may know that I (Allan) went over to New Zealand for 4 weeks and played at the Mount Manganui Golf Course. I was welcomed by the club members and got myself into a Team competition called Team Par. In this format teams of 4 players count all of their pluses (ignoring minuses) and the team with the highest number of pluses win the day. Well guess what our team won (they carried me .. but thats another story). So I won $50 and they had to shout us all drinks!. It was interesting too when I went to the course they asked what my exact handicap was (18.1 at the time) looked up a table and told me that I would be playing off 20 at their course. There are no course ratings as we have them in Australia (and I think its an easier way to adjust for a particular course).
They also had loads of side bets on the games called 'funnies'. Some examples of funnies were
gritties. Sand up and down to save par
grannies. Never lose the honor for 18 holes
nearies. Player closest to pin in one shot on par 3's, two shots on par 4's and three shots on par 5's
putties. Lowest number of putts for the round.
reggies. Best number of greens in regulation
As you can imagine you need a Phd to work out the settlement of all the bets!!
Here's a typical kiwi golf course situation :-)))
8th May 2004
A foggy and cold start today with a very dampish course full of soggy rough (well at least thats how it felt to me!). Well at least there were no injuries today, although Tony Mifsud just had a ball miss his big toe! The weeks rain deluge started on the first 2 or 3 holes today but thereafter the fearless brave were rewarded with mild and dry conditions. Another good day of scoring by A graders today (is it something they ate....or drunk more likely). Our new president delegated the results to the vice president today who (despite being a Vic PGA rules official) cocked up the countback...but once that was all sorted out Andrew Petricola won with 64 net on a countback from Paul Clarke.
Results.
Winner: Andrew Petricola on countback
A Grade) A.Petricola,P.Clarke(64), C.Priems(66), D.McDonald(67)

24th January 2004
Obviously as the handicapper was missing for the Australia Day weekend there has been a lot of suspicious activity.....soooo many players over 40 stableford!! Well done Paul Clarke(42) who ousted Steve Cole and his brother (who both probably thought they were the winner with 41 points!) into second place. Tony Mifsud played a blinder and beat his brother too!!Results
A Grade) P.Clarke(42),S.Cole,S.Clarke(41),A.Petricola(39)
B Grade) Tony Mifsud(41),Targe Mifsud(37),K.Delzoppo,N.Argall(34)
17th January 2004 (Day of the walking wounded!)
Today something very unusual and disturbing happened...within 2 minutes on the 8th hole two of our players were hit by golf balls. Gordon Hill was hit in the elbow and Andrew Petricola in the nose! Being true golfers they both finished their round!
The moral of the story is
(1) Always shout 'fore' LOUDLY
(2) If you hear 'fore' then turn away and cover your head...DON'T LOOK UP!
(3) Be careful if you have to move to a position in front of a tee to take a shot
The two Davids (Howard and Ford) won A and B grade respectively with 39 points. Note Andrew P. still managed a second even with his sore nose! Results were
A Grade) D.Howard(39), A.Petricola(38), C.Priems,S.Cole(37)
B Grade) D.Ford(39),N.Argall,L.Mannix(36),B.McDonald, A.Davies(34)
