Threat of rain but we were blessed with dry conditions for the Champion of Champions today. Adam Hebblethwaite easily won the competition with a net 62 from Damian Lee second place(65) and Chris Priems third place(75). Our new president Neil Argall ran proceedings today for the first time and demonstrated his natural talent for leadership and inspiring others :-)

John Quinlan has sent a letter from London where is settling down quickly and already has a local watering hole called the "The Famous Cock', for those of you that want to contact John his email is quinlan_john@hotmail.com.

Welcome back to Laurie Mannix who has spent the last 5 months touring Australia and like the song says "I've been everywhere man".

10th December 2005
A beautiful day with the course in good condition and Allan Davies had a net 64 to win the Vin O'Meara trophy on aggregate 136, 2 strokes clear of Chris Priems on 138 and Andrew Tome on 139. The golf was followed by the AGM and new officers voted in for the year and the persidential baton passed to our new president Neil Argall. Good luck Neil and well deserved. Thanks were given to Gordon Hill for completing his 2 years as president and Gordon finished up with a fine speech showing how the club had improved in performance during his reign. The roast spit was enjoyed by all along with a few ales and the start of the new season officially started. Good Luck to all in 2006.

Craig Sharp put in a great round to win the December Monthly Medal with a net 65 - a real threat now for the Vin O'Meara and he backed himself. Once again Neil Argall conducted the Calcutta with his excellent form guide (which will be posted on this website shortly). there is an excellent total pool for Vin O'Meara competition so good luck to the horses and punters!

We have a Thespian amongst us !
For those of you that didn't know we now have a show business artiste in our midst. David Ford is now playing a leading role (well almost) in La Boheme and will return to golf after the Boheme season followed by a large number of groupies no doubt. La Boheme is about two guys that want to make it with a girl or something like that and then one of them spins off the mortal coil. Autographs will be signed once David returns to reality.

19th November 2005
A cool morning with only slight drizzle and a good turn out. Paul Clarke won A grade with 39 stableford points and Tony Mifsdu won B Grade with 40 points. Well done good scores!. Next week is the Calcutta, No IOU's will be taken bring cash!

29/30th October 2005 Benalla Golf Trip
As usual everybody had a ball especially some of the ladies who helped the local wineries improve their cash flow considerably :-) The golf was played at Benalla Golf Club in hot and humid conditions on the Saturday and Wet drizzly conditions on Sunday. Andrew Tome blitzed the field by 10 stableford points to win with an aggregate 67. The rest of the field was further behind than 'Spot the Trotter" with Craig Shar coming second with 57 points and Allan Davies third with 56 points. Dinner was held on Friday and Saturday nights at the Benalla Golf Club, great meals, great company....next year will probably be at another location so keep practicing.!!

Presidential Alert!

As we haven't had a meeting for sometime we will have our next meeting in the relaxed atmosphere of our Benalla trip.

Key item will be nominations for committee positions.

David H. can you please bring the minutes.

22nd October 2005
Much better turn out this week with 6 groups. Course was recovering from the huge downpour on Friday night so it was probably best described as 'shaggy'. Players are busy preparing themselves for the Benalla trip next weekend ... you can see your handicap for the Benalla Tournament if you choose the 'Latest Handicap Sheet' link above.

The man from "over the ditch" won the monthly medal today (Brendon Mitchell of course) in a countback from Craig Sharp, getting justice for the countback he lost to Craig earlier in the year. The course was very difficult today with lots of wind and deeper rough than usual and also a bit soft (that's my excuse anyway :-).

Grand Final day and thank goodness South Melbourne (oop the Swans) won. We still managed to get 5 groups today which was a good turn out considering the final was on and the Mifsud's were on their annual pilgramage to Berrigan.Todays winners were the perennial Stuart Clarke with 36 points to win A Grade and take an unassailable lead in the championship points. 9th September 2005
Congratulations to Stuart Clarke on winning the 2005 matchplay final which was closely fought out with the runner up Brendon Mitchell. Stuart won on the 17th hole after a game of wins and losses but very few halved holes. Stuart recovered from a wayward tee shot off the 17th tee which landed on the 18th tee. He pitched over the bushes near the wire fence and putted in for birdie which sealed the match. Stephen Butterfield popped in an eagle today and Damien Lee's tee shot on the 4th hole hit the pin.....a busy day at the office!! The Stableford competition was one of the highest scoring for some months with B Grade outshooting A Grade on points this week. Well done to Rodger the Dodger and Nathan Thomas for their 42 point wins in B Grade and S.Butterfield for his 40 to win A Grade today.

Truly a Winter Cup - 7deg and wet - but good scores were in today with Brendon Mitchell leading the first round with a 41. Note. Use the same handicaps for the second round next week that you played with this week.

Note to Fred Kitson - your stats are now working!

2nd July 2005
Damien Lee was the medal winner after some controversy today which was a case of rules and absent mindeness penalising some players who teed off the blues and not the back markers. For clarification if you tee off the wrong markers then retake your shot from the correct markers then it is a two shot penalty on the hole. If you see a player teeing from the wrong markers then it is courteous (yes us!) to tell the player BEFORE they take their shot.

“Good luck to all players in the David Ford Autumn Cup which happens over the next two (2) weeks. Unfortunately I will be missing this year’s tournament so I wish you all happy putting and good scoring. No truth in the rumour that I’m spitting the dummy because it is two weeks of par golf.”

Well our president has done us proud and won the clubhouse Medal of Medallists with a net 59 in Golfpass and net 60 with us. Well done Gordon!!! As Gordon had to play in the clubhouse competition and was not allowed to play with us in the morning he still gets to win B Grade but the Monthly Medal goes to the morning winner Damian Lee who had a net 65 and a convincing score when many of us (especially me) floundered.

Note. It will be proposed at the next committee meeting that as Gordon has won the very first Medal of Medallists he should be eligible for our Champion of Champions competition later in the year.

Once again we had tough greens which were cored last Tuesday. We were however blessed with a sunny day and I am sure the greens will come up really well over the next 2 weeks. The Matchplay 1st 8 was played today and one match (Rodger Clarke and Andrew Blight) went to the 5th chip and putt decider on the practice green after they drew the Matchplay on the 18th. Andrew chipped in on the 5th which sealed his win.

Stableford Results today are
A Grade) S O'Sullivan,S.Clarke(36)C.Priems,B.Mitchell(33),R.Clarke,D.McDonald(31)
B Grade) K.Grist(38),F.Howe(34),A.Davies,D.Ford(32)

Matchplay Results today are
Andrew Blight defeated Rodger Clarke 5th Playoff after draw on 18th
Brendon Mitchell v Gordon Hill 5&4
Stuart Clarke defeated David Howard 2&1
Stephen O'Sullivan defeated Derek McDonald 4&2

Note. In case there is some confusion Matchplay is played by working out the number of stroke difference in handicaps between the two players and then assigning the extra strokes for the higher handicapper in the order of the Index from hardest hole (1) to easiest hole. If the difference is more than 18 then the extra strokes are added from index 1 downwards. For example if John Smith was on 23 and Joe Bloe was on 2 then the difference of 21 strokes would the following strokes assigned to the 23 handicapper - index holes 1 to 3 assigned 2 strokes and all remaining holes 1 stroke.

WHEN DO I EARN CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS?
Your scores must comply with the following rules to earn points
STABLEFORD: Score must be great than or equal to 31 points
PAR:                  Score must be greater than or equal to -5
STROKE:          Score must be greater than or equal to net 73

12th March 2005
Challenging greens made for some interesting putts to execute and watch. In fact one putt I saw changed "tram lines" 4 times before it veered off one inch from the hole! The greens are being cored on Tuesday so next week will be equally challenging.

The new A/B grade split of 15 yields 9 players in both grades so thats a good start for that setting.

Daylight saving is for another 3 weeks so tee times will be later, we expect to be back to 7.15am once daylight saving stops..

Please note. Matchplay pairs and who plays when has been corrected. See below in 5th March section for the correct pairings

It was decided by the committee that better golf balls will be given out and hence the Eagles Nest will now be a maximum of 12 balls (formerly was 24). Well done to Stuart Clarke who eagled the 3rd hole today!! Great Effort.

Note. Eclectic is now up to date (Click on ECLECTIC 2005 on top left)

Results for today are

B Grade) R.Clarke(+2),K.Grist(0),A.Davies,F.Kitson(-1)

5th March 2005
The conditions today were very tough for match play qualification with back tees, heavy rain and scarified greens, scores reflected the tougher conditions.
Congratualtions to Ken Grist who won the monthly medal on countback from Andrew Tomes. Current balance on accounts is $840.00. It was decided at the committee meeting today to have A grade as 15 or below as the club is improving and A and B grade splits are getting uneven again. This will be effective from next week. Also there will now be 5 balls maximum given away but higher quality balls of around $4-5 each.

Results for today are
A Grade) K.Grist,A.Tome(69),D.Howard,A.P'cola(70)D.Lee, B.Mitchell(72)

But this was no trouble to Andre Petricola who shot 67 off the stick (29 on back nine) to comfortably win A Grade with 43 points. Andrew Blight continued his good form with 38 points to win B grade and will be delighted with his new handicap.

29th January 2005
One of the wettest days we've had for some time (not including the flooding recently). I for one was mighty glad to finish the round as I found my clubs were starting to slip out of my hands on the release (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it). David Howard returned from hols and won A grade by 2 with 37 stableford points just to prove holidays do improve your handicap!. Fred Kitson and Andrew Blight took the honors in B grade with very good 38's.

I knew it....as soon as I'm back I've brought the standards down .. only one 40+ score this week...and it was Ken Grist with a great 42!. Course is in fine condition and as green as I saw the courses in NZ which says a lot for the ground staff! The Championship points are off and running with Stuart, Laurie and Ken leading on 8 points. Best behaviour next week as El presidente returns!

Hope everybody had a great Xmas and New Year and you are all finally easing up on the alka seltzer after all the grog, xmas pud and leftover ham and turkey!

Please note that the monthly medal is next week because of the new year holiday. Next week is a 7.07am start and the following week will go back to 7.00am. Club Captain please note that we have been asked to organise into groups of four as far as possible to help streamline the holiday throughput.

The new calendar is now available (click Calendar 2005 - on left side of screen)

A few of us played Growling Frog golf course near Whittlesea last week .. its very challenging and best to take a cart ($40 with cart) and lots of spare golf balls. I'll never complain about the rough at ivanhoe ever again!!

A few of the committee members including el presidente and your humble webmaster and handicapper will be away for two weeks .. so sorry to the assistant committee members who are it for those two weeks (Thanks Targe and Derek!). Unfortunately the website will not be updated for the next two weeks while I'm away so Targe will bring the handicaps to the course each week.

I have posted a Rules Cheat Sheet which helps you quickly determine a common ruling. Our new Rules Official (David H) needs to give it the ok but I thought I'd put it up for people to have a look at and pass any comments. Click on Rules Cheat Sheet on the left side of the screen.

PS. From handicapper: I cannot locate the cards for the 4th December..if anyone has them we need them for the eclectic. Could they bring the cards along and pass them onto Targe please.
